Wisdom Teeth (orig)

Wisdom teeth, also known as the third molars, are popular in dentistry for all the wrong reasons. Many people know of these teeth as the ones most likely to get extracted – but the truth of the matter is, only a certain percentage of all wisdom teeth cases are impaction which require extraction, the rest can normally erupt in the oral cavity without giving patients any trouble at all. These teeth begin erupting in the mouth between the ages of 17 and 25 and because they erupt so late, they are often left with a very limited amount of space at the far back of the arches. Lack of space one of the main reasons why these teeth become impacted and often erupt in crooked directions. Impaction can cause many different problems such as pain, swelling, trismus, bleeding, bad breath, and inability to chew from the affected side for the patient. This is not all – beneath the gum, an impacted tooth can also cause damage to the roots and crown of the adjacent second molars.

If you have started experiencing dull, aching pain near your TMJ or at the back of your jaws, you should visit the clinic so we can take a radiograph and determine the positon of your wisdom teeth.
