Top 5 Porcelain Veneers FAQs
Porcelain veneers are the sure way to that Hollywood, celebrity smile. If you want a smile that will shine, ear to ear, veneers are the solution that simply cannot be beat.
Veneers are whiter and brighter than a natural smile. They also can be shaped and fitted in such a way to cover up crooked teeth, chipped teeth, and misshapen teeth. You may have wide teeth with a gummy smile, but, your face structure looks better with a balanced smile and longer teeth. Veneers can fix this!
Before you take the dive, though, you may have some questions. Ideally, your dentist can answer any questions you may have, but, this FAQ will at least get some of the basic ones out of the way for you!
Are Veneers Reversible?
Unfortunately, veneers are not reversible. Applying veneers typically means removing a bit of the front of the teeth to reduce bulkiness and improve the composite adhering. However, if you find you do not love your smile, your dentist can help you select a different style of teeth that may be more to your liking.
Will My Teeth Become Overly Sensitive?
For the first few days after your veneers procedure, you can expect some sensitivity to hot and cold. However, this should only last for a few days!
Can Veneers Fall Off?
Since the veneer is essentially only covering the front of the tooth, trauma can cause the veneer to become loose or fall off. Don’t panic though, the veneer can be replaced rather easily with a quick visit to your dentist!
Do I Have to Alter My Diet?
In most cases, you do not need to alter your diet. Veneers are strong and can withstand a normal diet. You should, however avoid the following:
- Using your teeth to open pistachios
- Biting into a candy apple
- Chewing on a bone
- Chewing on a pen cap
These acts can cause trauma to the veneer or potentially stress it loose.
Do Veneers Require Extra Maintenance?
Ultimately, they don’t! You brush and floss them the way you would brush and floss your natural teeth. If you grind your teeth while you are sleeping, you may find it beneficial to wear a mouth guard for grinding and clenching to reduce the speed of wear and tear on your beautiful new smile!
